Google's Street View found not to breach privacy laws
The UK Information Commissioner has declared Google's Street View photo-mapping service does not breach data protection laws. The privacy watchdog said it was satisfied Google was doing enough to ensure images don't expose individuals or sensitive UK locations. Google, which began mapping streets in London last month, has previously been criticised by privacy groups for showing images of sensitive locations, private property and recognisable people, but the Information Commissioner said it would not stop Google from continuing the project.
A statement read: "Although it is possible that in certain limited circumstances an image may allow the identification of an individual, it is clear that Google is keen to capture images of streets and not individuals."
Google said it welcomed the decision.
